Monzo is seeking a Senior Financial Crime Investigator to join its Business Banking team, serving as a frontline defence against complex economic crime. You will safeguard Monzo's ecosystem and customers—from startups to established SMEs—against sophisticated fraud and money laundering.
Key responsibilities include taking ownership of complex financial crime tasks such as Enhanced Due Diligence (EDD) for high-risk businesses, Complex Customer Reviews, and multi-jurisdictional money muling investigations. You will write, review, and submit high-quality Suspicious Activity Reports (SARs) to the National Crime Agency (NCA), ensuring they meet the highest legal and evidential standards.
You will maintain a regular schedule on core investigative tasks to sustain competency levels, directly support Service Level Agreements (SLAs), and remain connected to frontline challenges. A key part of your role involves actively coaching Investigators on complex financial crime typologies, best practice, and performance improvement to drive a culture of excellence. You will also work closely with Operations Analysts to share emerging trends and ensure operational guidance is continuously updated and effectively embedded across the domain.
The ideal candidate brings deep KYB & AML expertise with significant experience conducting end-to-end business due diligence and complex investigations within a regulated financial setting. You are a skilled researcher with proven ability to leverage open-source intelligence and analysis to corroborate customer profiles and transactional activity. You possess a strong grasp of UK and international financial crime trends affecting business accounts and the UK SAR regime. You thrive in fast-paced environments, maintain high flexibility, and adapt positively to shifting priorities and process changes. You are impact-driven with a genuine desire to protect Monzo and its customers. Leadership and improvement skills are valued, ideally with experience mentoring peers, escalating process improvements, or relevant qualifications such as ICA or ACAMS.
Work schedule: 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 9:00am to 5:30pm, plus one full weekend (Saturday and Sunday) once every 4 weeks, with 2 days in lieu provided.
