Shield AI is seeking a Senior Engineer, Test to design, develop, and maintain automated test frameworks and validation tooling for its autonomy software products, including Hivemind autonomy software and unmanned aerial systems (V-BAT, X-BAT). You will develop and execute comprehensive verification and validation strategies across multiple environments: simulation, software-in-the-loop (SIL), hardware-in-the-loop (HIL), vehicle-in-the-loop (VIL), and representative hardware systems.
Key responsibilities include building automated regression, integration, functional, and performance test suites that improve software quality and deployment confidence. You will develop Python-based automation, test harnesses, and analysis tools to reduce manual testing effort and improve repeatability. You'll analyze test results, identify software defects and integration issues, and support cross-functional root cause investigations across autonomy software, systems engineering, flight test, and integration teams.
You will develop software quality metrics, dashboards, and readiness assessments that provide objective evidence of software maturity. Integration of automated testing into CI/CD workflows is critical to enable continuous validation and rapid developer feedback. You'll improve test infrastructure, automation coverage, and validation methodologies across Shield AI's Expeditionary and Emerging Operations portfolio.
Required: BS in Computer Science, Aerospace, Electrical, Mechanical Engineering or related field. 4–7 years developing software test, verification, automation, or validation solutions for robotics, autonomy, aerospace, or complex distributed systems. Strong proficiency in Python for automation, testing, and data analysis. Experience developing automated test frameworks, test harnesses, or validation infrastructure. Linux-based development environment experience. Experience validating software in simulation, SIL, HIL, and/or representative hardware environments. Ability to debug complex software and system integration issues. CI/CD pipeline and continuous validation experience. Strong understanding of software verification, regression testing, and quality assurance methodologies.
Preferred: Experience with flight control systems (ArduPilot, PX4), unmanned aerial systems (fixed-wing, quadrotor), autonomy/robotics/aerospace background, and familiarity with flight controllers, radios, and communications systems.
