Postman is the world's leading API platform used by 45+ million developers and 500,000 organizations, including 98% of the Fortune 500. The Search Team is responsible for enabling users to quickly discover and get started with APIs they need, focusing on improving discovery and ease of consumption across Postman's rapidly growing data ecosystem.
You will own the end-to-end architecture and roadmap of Postman's search platform, which consists of distributed indexing pipelines, storage infrastructure, and high-performance web servers. This role sits at the intersection of infrastructure, relevance, and developer experience—designing systems that power search across the platform.
Key responsibilities include:
- Architecting and maintaining the search platform's core systems, including distributed indexing pipelines and high-performance web services
- Improving search result relevance through signal engineering and better data models
- Ensuring system performance and reliability as data volume and query traffic grow
- Collaborating with Product Managers, Designers, and cross-functional teams to drive initiatives
- Mentoring engineers on the team through code reviews and technical guidance
- Building functional prototypes to solve internal and external use cases
- Upholding operational excellence with a bias for action and user empathy
You bring 6+ years of backend engineering experience with deep expertise in search and ETL systems. You have hands-on experience with search platforms like Elasticsearch, Apache Solr, or OpenSearch, and have built systems to orchestrate batch and streaming pipelines using Apache Kafka, Kinesis, or similar technologies. You're proficient in Python, JavaScript, or Java, with strong fundamentals in algorithms, networking, and operating systems. Experience with AI, NLP, ranking systems, or recommendation systems is valued. You write testable, maintainable code following SOLID principles and communicate technical concepts effectively across teams.
