Orenda develops, builds, owns, and operates battery energy storage projects in dense urban environments to make the grid more efficient with renewable energy. The company combines proprietary asset management technology with strategic market entry to bridge the gap between renewables and electricity consumption. The Strategy team leads scouting, analysis, and validation of new investment opportunities, working cross-functionally to translate research findings into implementation plans. The team also monitors policy developments and advocates for favorable regulatory changes. As Senior Energy Market Research Analyst, you will be the engine of Orenda's market opportunity pipeline. You will research energy markets for new investment opportunities, monitor markets on the company's watch list as they evolve, and build the analytical foundation for every new investment strategy. Your work directly shapes which markets Orenda will enter next. You report to and partner closely with the Chief Strategy Officer. Key responsibilities include: researching new energy markets to investigate potential investment opportunities; maintaining an opportunity database as a single source of truth for every market scanned, monitored, or archived; monitoring and forecasting how market fundamentals will evolve by identifying drivers (policy, price, technology) and defining triggers that confirm or invalidate forecasts; delivering Feasibility Reviews against the company's investment standards; and building and improving the processes that power market investigation, forecasting, and reviews. You will need 3+ years of experience in market research, strategy, investment analysis, or a related discipline within the energy sector. A bachelor's degree in a quantitative or analytical field (engineering, math, physics, data science, or equivalent professional experience) is required. You must be proficient in at least one analytical environment (Python, R, or Matlab) for data manipulation and statistical analysis, and have working knowledge of forecasting methods such as time series analysis, Monte Carlo simulation, scenario analysis, or sensitivity testing. Strong written communication skills are essential—you must turn unstructured research into structured documents decision makers can act on. You should be able to operate in a fast-moving environment with minimal supervision, balancing multiple workstreams against firm deadlines. Preferred qualifications include an advanced degree in engineering, economics, public policy, or a related quantitative field; a demonstrated track record of producing analysis that informed an investment, strategic, or policy decision; prior experience scouting or evaluating opportunities in distributed energy resources, energy storage, or EV charging; and experience building or owning research processes and databases from scratch.
