Human Interest is a high-growth fintech company on a mission to make retirement benefits accessible to small and medium-sized businesses across the US. Backed by major investors including BlackRock, SoftBank, and TPG, the company has raised approximately $500M to date and is transforming how working Americans access retirement savings. You'll join the Legal team as Senior Employment Counsel, reporting to the Assistant General Counsel, Product & Regulatory. This is a strategic, senior-level role focused on employment law with genuine opportunity to expand into adjacent legal areas as the business scales. Primary responsibilities include serving as the trusted legal advisor to the People team across the full employment lifecycle—from hiring and performance management through terminations, reductions in force, accommodations, and sensitive employee situations. You'll own the company's employment disputes end-to-end, managing pre-litigation claims, EEOC charges, administrative proceedings, settlement negotiations, and directing outside counsel on employment litigation. You'll oversee internal employment investigations covering harassment, discrimination, retaliation, and whistleblower matters. With a US-based workforce spanning most states, multistate employment compliance is core to the role. You'll provide proactive counsel on federal, state, and local employment law developments, with particular focus on non-exempt employee populations and wage-and-hour compliance. Additional responsibilities include advising on employee data privacy and information security, drafting and reviewing employment agreements and separation documents, developing employment policies and handbooks, and delivering training to People leaders and business stakeholders on employment law and risk mitigation. Beyond employment, you'll take ownership of adjacent legal areas as needed—potentially including privacy, non-employment litigation, regulatory investigations, ERISA and benefits, commercial contracting, and marketing review. The ideal candidate is genuinely open to learning and stretching beyond employment law rather than routing unfamiliar matters elsewhere.
