Cloudflare's Cache team builds and operates the high-performance reverse proxy and caching data plane at the edge of one of the world's largest CDNs. You will work on systems that serve cached content, route traffic across cache tiers, and connect Cloudflare to customer origins—all built on Pingora, Cloudflare's open-source Rust framework for fast, reliable network services.
Key areas of focus include: reverse proxy and supporting services, backend routing and load balancing, cache storage and indexing, globally distributed purge systems, Tiered Cache routing, and production observability. These foundational systems power customer-facing products including Cache Rules, Tiered Cache, Cache Reserve, Workers Cache API, and Always Online.
You will own features end-to-end: design, implement, test, roll out, and operate systems in production. Responsibilities include designing and building the high-performance cache and proxy data plane; contributing to Pingora to improve asynchronous I/O, connection handling, memory and disk efficiency, and tail latency; improving cache correctness through object placement, retention, admission and eviction policies; building globally distributed purge and Tiered Cache systems; delivering shared platform capabilities and customer-facing APIs; writing technical designs and automated tests; driving staged rollouts with measurable guardrails; participating in on-call rotation and incident response; and mentoring teammates through code review and clear communication.
