SandboxAQ's AI Simulation (AISim) division is seeking a Senior Director of Product Management to lead the ChemSim business—an AI-driven materials discovery platform. This is a dual-mandate leadership role combining near-term execution on a $500M CHIPS Act R&D award from the U.S. Department of Commerce with long-term commercial transformation.
In the near term, you will be the primary product driver ensuring the team delivers against contractual milestone gates across four critical-material verticals: Catalysis, Batteries, Magnets, and PFAS Replacements. In parallel, you will build the commercial foundation transforming ChemSim from government-funded R&D into a product-led growth business generating recurring revenue from the broader materials discovery market.
Reporting to the Vice President of Product, you will manage a team of 4 PM individual contributors—one per contracted vertical—while partnering closely with the Senior Director of Platform PM in a two-in-a-box model. You will own the ChemSim go-to-market strategy, pricing and packaging, and expansion into adjacent verticals including oil and gas, energy, specialty chemicals, and advanced manufacturing.
Key responsibilities include: owning end-to-end product strategy and roadmap spanning CHIPS Act deliverables and commercial expansion; hiring and developing a team of 3-4 PMs across verticals; partnering in a two-in-a-box model to define platform capabilities; defining go-to-market approach, pricing, and customer segmentation; building strategic partner relationships with fabs, equipment OEMs, and national laboratories; establishing data-driven metrics across contract performance and commercial KPIs; making build-vs-buy and build-vs-partner decisions; and serving as primary product voice to DOC stakeholders and prospective customers.
Required: 10+ years in product management with 5+ years managing teams; strong domain expertise in materials science, chemistry, or chemical engineering; track record shipping AI/ML-driven scientific or engineering platform products at enterprise scale; experience building B2B go-to-market strategy for technical software; comfort navigating deep ambiguity; Bachelor's in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent; MBA or equivalent business leadership and P&L experience.
Highly desired: experience in semiconductor manufacturing, oil and gas, energy storage, specialty chemicals, or advanced manufacturing; prior engagement with semiconductor ecosystem partners at product or business development level.
