GoFundMe is seeking a Senior Director of Legal for Global Payments to lead the legal strategy supporting the company's global payments ecosystem. Reporting to the Chief Legal Officer, this executive will serve as GoFundMe's foremost legal advisor on payments, financial services, and fintech matters.
Key responsibilities include defining and executing legal strategy for the global payments platform, partnering with Product, Engineering, Compliance, Risk, Finance, and Business Development to enable innovation while ensuring regulatory compliance. The role involves building scalable legal and regulatory operating models that support global expansion, enterprise risk management, and long-term platform strategy.
You will enable product innovation by partnering closely with cross-functional teams throughout the product lifecycle, providing practical legal guidance on new payment methods, payment service providers, and financial services offerings. This includes developing scalable legal review processes that accelerate innovation while maintaining appropriate safeguards.
As the company's subject matter expert on payments law, you will advise on money transmission, financial services regulation, AML/BSA, sanctions, fraud prevention, KYC/KYB, card network and ACH rules, and related frameworks. You'll navigate U.S. federal and state regulatory requirements as well as international legal frameworks including FINTRAC, TRACFIN, and other evolving global regulatory regimes.
You will lead legal strategy for regulatory engagement, licensing initiatives, supervisory examinations, and interactions with regulators, banking partners, payment networks, and financial institutions. Working closely with the Chief Compliance Officer, you'll ensure legal and compliance strategies remain aligned while maintaining clear governance responsibilities.
The role involves building the legal frameworks, governance, and regulatory infrastructure necessary to support GoFundMe's platform excellence strategy and global marketplace expansion. Success is measured by translating complex legal and regulatory requirements into practical business solutions that enable responsible innovation while protecting the company, customers, partners, and platform integrity.
