Senior Developer Experience Platform Engineer

Motorway is the UK's largest online car-selling platform, connecting private sellers with over 8,000 dealers nationwide. Founded in 2017 and backed by leading technology investors with £143 million in Series C funding, the company is at a critical growth phase. You will join a newly formed Developer Experience team within the Product & Engineering organization, responsible for building and evolving the internal platform that enables Motorway's engineering teams to ship faster and more reliably. Key responsibilities include: - Owning and evolving AWS environments and shared platform infrastructure, prioritizing reliability, scalability, and developer usability - Designing and building self-service tooling that standardizes how engineers build, deploy, and operate services - Automating toil and reducing manual work through infrastructure-as-code and platform abstractions - Defining and implementing platform-level monitoring, alerting, and observability standards that provide actionable signals - Enabling product teams to understand and improve service reliability across environments - Owning continuous delivery and release capabilities to reduce time-to-production while maintaining safety - Staying current with industry best practices in application hosting and developer experience - Mentoring and upskilling other engineers on the team You should bring proven experience operating and evolving production platforms at scale, with strong AWS expertise in production environments. You'll need experience defining meaningful metrics and monitoring, working with platform security controls, designing continuous delivery systems supporting zero-downtime deployments, and responding to production incidents in an on-call environment. Proficiency with command-line tools and at least one programming language for automation is required. You should be comfortable working independently after onboarding, solving complex cross-cutting problems collaboratively, and operating in a fast-moving environment with evolving priorities. The role includes a shared, sustainable on-call rotation after onboarding, supported by the wider engineering team. Hybrid working arrangement available.
