FlixBus is seeking a Senior Data Scientist to own and evolve the company's causal measurement practice within the Commercial & Marketing Intelligence team. This role focuses on designing and executing experiments that directly inform global marketing budget allocation decisions.
Key responsibilities include:
- Design, execute, and continuously improve geo-based, time-based, and synthetic control experiment frameworks across global markets and channels
- Apply econometric and causal inference techniques (difference-in-differences, synthetic control, Bayesian structural time series) to measure incremental effects of marketing activities on bookings and revenue
- Build and manage a structured test-and-learn programme across paid channels, prioritizing experiments by business value
- Develop and validate attribution models (CLV-MTA and MMM) to reduce reliance on platform self-reported data
- Translate complex causal findings into actionable recommendations for marketing, finance, and senior leadership
- Review experiment designs, create documentation, and establish internal standards for measuring marketing effectiveness
Required qualifications:
- Master's or PhD in Statistics, Econometrics, Applied Mathematics, Data Science, or related quantitative field
- 5+ years in data science or quantitative research with hands-on causal experiment design experience
- Strong expertise in causal inference methods and matched market testing
- Proficiency in Python, SQL, Power BI, and statistical libraries (statsmodels, PyMC, CausalImpact)
- Experience with version control (Git), reproducible workflows, and cloud/data warehouse environments (BigQuery, Snowflake)
- Ability to present statistical findings to non-technical audiences
- Marketing measurement, media mix modelling, or growth reporting experience preferred
