Salary: USD 183,000 - 194,000 / annual
Insitro is seeking a Senior Data Scientist in Computational Biology to join their South San Francisco headquarters on a hybrid schedule (3 days/week in-office). You will leverage state-of-the-art technologies measuring cellular biology to accelerate drug development through computational analysis.
In this role, you will synthesize insights from multimodal data sources—including microscopy, spatial proteomics, bulk/single-cell RNA-seq, and human cohort data—to uncover disease mechanisms and identify therapeutic targets. You'll analyze diverse data from disease-relevant in vitro models and perturbation screens to discover potential therapeutic targets and biomarkers for disease monitoring. Your work will directly impact target prioritization and drug development efforts.
You will partner closely with experimental biologists on experimental design, optimization, and validation of mechanistic and therapeutic hypotheses. You'll bring statistical and computational expertise to guide assay development and provide rigorous biological interpretation of results. A key responsibility is benchmarking and calibrating analysis tools, defining performance metrics, and selecting fit-for-purpose solutions. You'll communicate findings to cross-functional stakeholders through reports, visualizations, presentations, and publications.
You'll be part of a vibrant cross-functional team including life scientists, data scientists, bioengineers, software engineers, and ML scientists, reporting directly to the Head of Computational Biology and ML-Omics.
Required: Ph.D. in computational biology, systems biology, bioengineering, computer science, machine learning, or related field, plus 3+ years post-graduation experience. You need hands-on experience with diverse data modalities (single-cell RNA-seq, fluorescence microscopy, spatial proteomics/transcriptomics, or label-free microscopy). Deep understanding of statistical modeling, molecular/disease biology, and strong Python programming (NumPy, pandas). Publication record in computational biology or related venues required. You should be a collaborative communicator with engineering discipline—writing well-commented code, following best practices like version control and code review.
