Salary: USD 220,500 - 245,000 / annual
Discord is seeking an experienced Senior Data Scientist to join the Experimentation Platform team, which powers data-driven decision-making across the company. The role focuses on causal inference and experimental design, ensuring the statistical rigor of hundreds of daily experiments that inform strategy for 90M+ daily active users.
Key responsibilities include collaborating with engineering and product teams to improve experimentation reliability and scalability; providing statistical expertise on causal inference methodologies and experimental design best practices; leading cross-functional education initiatives to build data literacy across the organization; developing training materials and workshops on statistical concepts; empowering the 50+ member Data Science team to adopt rigorous causal inference methods; and conducting independent causal inference research on Discord priorities.
The ideal candidate brings an MSc in a quantitative field (Statistics, Economics, Political Science, Psychology, or similar) plus 2+ years designing, implementing, and analyzing experiments or causal inference projects. Required skills include proven experience validating statistical methodologies for experimentation platforms, critical evaluation of statistical approaches, strong communication ability for both technical and non-technical audiences, demonstrated track record developing training programs on experimentation or causal inference, and proficiency in Python, SQL, R, and statistical programming.
Bonus qualifications include a PhD in a quantitative field, interest in literature reviews and championing scientific best practices, track record translating causal inference methods into business outcomes, passion for Discord or gaming, and publications in causal inference.
