The company is transitioning into an AI-native banking platform with technology hubs in Berlin and banking operations in Frankfurt. In this Senior Data Scientist role, you will develop, operationalize, and maintain machine learning models in close collaboration with business stakeholders. Your focus areas include fraud protection, compliance, and AML (anti-money laundering) systems with varying latency requirements. Key responsibilities include: preparing training data through analysis of transactional logs, data labeling, and handling class imbalances; building feature engineering operations including common, cross, and positional features, plus a centralized feature store; selecting models and conducting experimentation with baseline and gradient boosted approaches; deploying models from batch to online prediction servicing; setting up automated pipelines to monitor population drift and continuously re-fit models; and mentoring team members. You will work closely with analytics engineers and the data infrastructure team. The role requires minimum 6 years of data science experience in fast-paced, regulated environments. Required skills include proficiency in data science libraries (pandas, polars, numpy, scikit-learn), gradient boosting frameworks (XGBoost), advanced SQL, and hands-on experience with analytical platforms like Snowflake. Experience with centralized feature platforms (Snowflake Feature Store, Feast, Tecton), data transformation tools (dbt), and orchestration tools (Airflow) is essential. Strong software engineering fundamentals including Git, CI/CD, and automated testing are expected. Domain expertise in payments, fraud, and risk is highly valued, including understanding transaction movement, payment protocols, fraud typologies, velocity features, device dynamics, entity profiling, and financial/regulatory guardrails. Excellent English communication skills are required; German language skills are preferred.
