Xero's Data Engineering team is seeking a Senior Data Engineer to design and build data solutions at scale. You will own complex technical problems end-to-end, from data ingestion through modelling and underlying platform infrastructure, serving both internal analytics and millions of small businesses worldwide.
The role involves designing robust data pipelines and models using modern tools including Snowflake, dbt, Prefect, and AWS. You'll play a key part in raising technical standards, improving data quality, and creating a more self-service platform for downstream teams. The team is actively expanding core data platform capabilities, advancing Infrastructure as Code practices with Terraform, building raw data intake pipelines and core data models, and developing real-time data products and behavioural analytics platforms using tools like Flink.

Required experience includes: strong understanding of end-to-end modern data platforms with hands-on work in orchestration tools (Snowflake, dbt, Prefect); solid infrastructure-as-code practices using Terraform; well-rounded engineering habits including testing, CI/CD pipelines, and AWS proficiency; deep data engineering fundamentals spanning modelling, transformation, pipeline design, and data quality; production systems management with monitoring and incident response; and excellent problem-solving with strong ownership and collaboration skills.
