Prolific Machines is developing an optogenetic platform to enable dynamic, tunable control over cellular behavior for therapeutic protein production and bioprocess optimization. The Analytical Science team seeks a scientist to quantify and characterize therapeutic proteins in collaboration with R&D and bioprocess teams.
Key responsibilities include developing, optimizing, and validating assays for protein titer and quality across diverse recombinant therapeutic proteins. You will plan and execute experiments to understand protein quality through cell line, upstream, and downstream process development. The role requires executing, summarizing, interpreting, and presenting routine and complex therapeutic protein characterizations, with accountability for compliance and rigorous documentation standards.
You will routinely operate, maintain, and troubleshoot analytical instrumentation including HPLCs, FPLCs, and mass spectrometers. Additional responsibilities include authoring, reviewing, and implementing methods, protocols, validations, and standard operating procedures to ensure consistent execution.
The ideal candidate holds a PhD in Analytical Chemistry, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, or Pharmaceutical Sciences with 1+ years of biologics industry experience. Demonstrated expertise in therapeutic protein characterization approaches (HPLC, SDS-PAGE, CE, cIEF, LC-MS) is essential. You should have proven ability to develop and interpret intact mass analysis, sequence confirmation, PTM analysis (glycosylation, disulfide mapping, peptide mapping), and aggregation/charge variant characterizations for biologics. GLP-compliant method development experience is required. Hands-on LC-MS operation experience is necessary, with Agilent QTOF instrumentation and proteomic software familiarity preferred.
You are highly motivated to deliver successful outcomes for internal and external clients, with strong communication skills and ability to teach technical concepts at multiple levels of detail. This is an on-site role based in Emeryville, CA.
