SoFi's Risk Data Science team is seeking a Senior Data Scientist to develop advanced machine learning and statistical models that drive credit risk and operational decision-making across the organization. You will partner with Credit, Risk, Product, Engineering, and Operations teams to design solutions for underwriting, portfolio management, loss mitigation, and loss forecasting. Key responsibilities include developing and continuously improving ML and statistical models supporting credit and risk procedures; presenting model performance and insights to leadership; proactively identifying opportunities to apply advanced modeling approaches to complex business problems; exploring and leveraging internal and external data sources to enhance predictive power; collaborating with Model Risk Management to ensure models meet governance requirements; performing ongoing model monitoring through dashboards and KPI tracking; and working with Product and Engineering teams to improve the model development, deployment, and monitoring lifecycle. You will explore and apply both in-house and open-source ML and statistical tools and algorithms. This role offers direct, immediate impact on business profitability through sophisticated credit risk modeling in a fintech context. Required qualifications: Master's degree in Statistics, Econometrics, Mathematics, Operations Research, Physics, Computer Science, Engineering, or related quantitative field (PhD preferred); 3+ years of relevant experience building and implementing ML and statistical models; excellent logic reasoning and communication skills; strong SQL and Python proficiency for complex attribute creation with large datasets; strong database knowledge (SQL, NoSQL, Hive); demonstrated experience building efficient pipelines with SageMaker and Snowflake; excellent knowledge of supervised and unsupervised learning methods (regression, classification, clustering, decision trees, ensemble methods, neural networks, deep learning); strong Python programming with ML libraries (sklearn, lightgbm, xgboost, pytorch, tensorflow, keras). Nice-to-have: lending industry experience, model documentation expertise, cross-functional collaboration experience, AWS or GCP familiarity.
