Oscar Health is seeking a Senior Data Scientist to join its Risk Adjustment Data Science team in New York. The role focuses on transforming complex healthcare and insurance data into production systems that power Oscar's clinical risk quantification and regulatory submissions.
You will design, build, and maintain data pipelines and statistical/ML models that automate manual business processes across the risk adjustment space. Working closely with the Actuarial and Risk Adjustment teams, you'll translate their workflows into robust, validated, and maintainable production systems. This is a builder-focused role where you take ambiguous, manual processes and re-engineer them with strong software engineering practices.
Key responsibilities include owning projects end-to-end—from problem scoping with stakeholders through technical design, implementation, validation, and post-launch iteration. You'll partner across functional areas, help shape the team's technical direction and risk adjustment models, and provide informal mentorship to junior data scientists. You report to the Senior Manager, Data Science.
Required qualifications: 4+ years in quantitative technical fields; 3+ years with SQL and Python for data manipulation and analysis; 3+ years building data models using advanced analytics, statistical modeling, or data processing; and demonstrated experience designing and maintaining production data pipelines with software engineering best practices (version control, code review, testing).
Bonus experience includes advanced degree in quantitative/technical field, healthcare/finance/insurance industry background, risk adjustment or actuarial process knowledge, experience converting spreadsheet-based processes into automated systems, and familiarity with modern data tools (BigQuery, dbt, Dataflow) and cloud platforms.
The position is hybrid, requiring 3 days in-office per week with Thursdays mandatory for team meetings. Flexible scheduling for the other two office days.
