Turquoise Health is seeking an experienced Senior Data Science Engineer to join the Data Science Engineering team and own the data lifecycle of healthcare claims data. This fully remote role focuses on building and maintaining reliable data pipelines that process raw claims data from diverse sources into enriched, standardized formats. Key responsibilities include designing and implementing ELT/ETL pipelines using Python, SQL, PostgreSQL, Trino, ClickHouse, Airflow, Datadog, and AWS cloud services. You'll build automated observability and monitoring into data quality systems, produce privacy-preserving datasets, and implement de-identification and PII-reduction specifications in collaboration with Security, Infrastructure, and Product teams. The role requires drafting technical design documentation, seeking feedback from internal customers, and iterating quickly to deliver value. Required qualifications include 4+ years developing data models, pipelines, and end-to-end analytical solutions. You must have strong programming experience in Python and SQL, with advanced SQL skills including window functions, subqueries, CTEs, performance tuning, and indexing. Experience with healthcare claims data (EDI 837/835 files, CMS VRDC, CMS Limited Data Set, commercial claims datasets) is essential. You should have solid data modeling experience supporting both OLAP and OLTP workflows, comfort with object-oriented and functional programming patterns, and familiarity with ETL/ELT workflows and orchestration tools like Airflow. Bonus qualifications include revenue cycle and healthcare payments expertise, payer-provider contracting knowledge, experience handling sensitive data in regulated environments, leadership and mentoring capabilities, and cloud services experience (AWS, Azure, or GCP). The ideal candidate demonstrates software engineering rigor with automated testing and version control, thoughtful use of AI coding agents and LLMs, and comfort working remotely in collaborative technical teams. Turquoise Health is a Series C price transparency platform backed by a16z, Oak HC/FT, Adams Street, and other leading investors. The company powers price transparency for 300+ enterprise organizations and is building infrastructure for a more open, efficient healthcare marketplace. The team is remote-first, US-based, and values transparency, empathy, inclusivity, creativity, and ownership.
