Choco is a SaaS platform transforming the food supply chain by automating orders, reducing errors, and enabling data-driven operations for food distributors. The company has raised $300M+ and achieved unicorn status (~$1.2B valuation). As Senior Data Platform Engineer, you will design and build the scalable data foundation powering Choco's internal analytics, AI capabilities, and customer-facing data products. You'll own critical components of the data ecosystem—from ingestion and transformation through to platform reliability and governance—as the company scales to serve increasingly demanding enterprise customers. Key responsibilities include: - Design and build scalable data platforms spanning ingestion frameworks, batch/streaming pipelines, and data products - Build and operate batch, streaming, and CDC pipelines across heterogeneous data sources - Establish data observability, SLA/SLO frameworks around reliability, freshness, quality, and downstream impact - Implement PII masking, retention policies, and data contracts to embed compliance and governance into platform design - Improve data modeling, warehouse/lakehouse standards, and developer productivity through reusable tooling and automation - Lead technical initiatives end-to-end from architecture through implementation, rollout, and production operation - Make pragmatic engineering decisions balancing scalability, reliability, cost, and business priorities You bring 5+ years of experience in Data Engineering or Data Platform Engineering, with proven ownership of production data systems in SaaS environments. You have strong hands-on expertise with Spark/Databricks, dbt, Airflow, SQL, and Python. Experience with streaming/CDC, heterogeneous data ingestion, modern lakehouse/warehouse architectures, and data quality/governance frameworks is essential. Experience with Kafka/Kinesis/Debezium or supporting ML/AI workloads in production is a plus. Choco offers competitive compensation, equity, health and wellbeing support, and long-term benefits including sabbaticals. You'll work with a global team across 6 countries and 40+ nationalities on real-world problems affecting order accuracy, speed, and margins in a system still largely dependent on calls and spreadsheets.
