Salary: USD 179,400 - 272,800 / annual
Thumbtack is a marketplace platform helping millions of homeowners care for their homes by connecting them with local service professionals. The company operates a community of 300,000+ service businesses and uses data to improve matching, pricing, and operational efficiency.
You'll join the Embedded Data Engineering team within Thumbtack's Data Engineering organization, working on the commercial operations side. This team is responsible for designing and curating datasets from internal and third-party sources to support analytics, data science, and machine learning initiatives across the company.
Key responsibilities include:
- Collaboratively develop and evangelize a framework for integrating data-thinking into the software development lifecycle for product teams
- Design, architect, and maintain core operations datasets, data marts, and feature stores supporting both mature and rapidly evolving products
- Partner with analytics, data science, and machine learning teams to understand data needs and design datasets with engineering rigor
- Drive data quality and best practices across business areas
- Build next-generation data products leveraging AI models for code generation and agent-based workflows
You'll work closely with engineers, analysts, data scientists, and managers to understand their needs and actively build datasets to solve their challenges. The role involves deep cross-functional collaboration to identify process improvements and ensure data infrastructure supports current and future business needs.
Required qualifications:
- 4+ years designing and building datasets and data warehouses
- Strong SQL expertise for analytics, reporting, BI, and ETL pipeline transforms
- Experience designing and maintaining data warehouses that integrate production databases, clickstream data, and external APIs
- Proficiency with modern cloud-native data stacks (BigQuery, dbt, Apache Airflow, or similar)
- Experience using AI to generate design plans, code, and documentation
- Strong ownership mentality from ideation through maintenance
- Excellent cross-functional collaboration skills, especially with analytics teams
