ShipIn Systems is an AI-powered maritime fleet intelligence platform that transforms vessel operations through real-time visual analytics and actionable insights. The company works with leading global shipowners to enhance safety, performance, and decision-making across fleets.
As Senior Data Engineer, you will own end-to-end data pipelines at the core of FleetVision, ShipIn's flagship product. This is a uniquely challenging role: pipelines run on-premises aboard vessels at sea, processing continuous high-volume video streams in real time within resource-constrained environments and without reliable connectivity. You'll drive both the reliability and optimization of existing systems while architecting next-generation solutions as the platform scales.
Key responsibilities include designing and optimizing data pipelines for on-prem, vessel-based environments with emphasis on performance, reliability, and real-time throughput. You'll own the full pipeline lifecycle—from maintaining and stabilizing current systems to driving architectural redesigns. You'll develop high-performance pipelines for stream and batch processing of large-scale video and telemetry data, integrate on-prem infrastructure with AWS cloud services, and collaborate with ML and computer vision engineers to deploy and operationalize models in real-time, resource-constrained edge environments.
You'll work closely with DevOps, product managers, and algorithm teams to build infrastructure supporting new features and system improvements. You'll write clean, maintainable Python code, participate in rigorous design and code reviews, troubleshoot pipeline issues quickly to minimize downtime on 24/7 systems at sea, and stay current with data engineering developments.
Required: 5+ years designing and operating production data pipelines; strong Python proficiency as your primary language; hands-on PostgreSQL or equivalent relational database experience; solid understanding of integrating ML models into large-scale production; comfort with hybrid architectures (on-prem + cloud), ideally AWS; strong communication and collaboration skills.
Advantages: Rust or C++ experience; image or video processing pipeline experience; edge or embedded computing environment familiarity.
