Samsara (NYSE: IOT) is the pioneer of the Connected Operations Cloud, a platform enabling organizations in physical operations—agriculture, construction, field services, transportation, and manufacturing—to harness IoT data for actionable insights and operational improvement. We are seeking a Senior Data Engineer to join our Data team alongside Data Scientists and Analysts. You will design and maintain critical data pipelines using SparkSQL and PySpark within our central data lake, ingesting and transforming IoT device and software product data into our core data model. This data powers statistical analysis, model training, and dashboard creation across the organization. Key responsibilities include: - Building and maintaining highly reliable computed tables from diverse sources: unstructured data (video, audio), Samsara sensor and product data, and customer metadata - Accessing, manipulating, and integrating external datasets with internal data - Delivering high-quality, customer-facing datasets with strong uptime and reliability requirements - Collaborating with Data Science, Analytics, AI/ML, and other Data Engineers to ensure data quality for causal inference, model training, and dashboarding - Embedding Samsara's cultural principles (customer focus, long-term thinking, growth mindset, inclusivity, teamwork) as the company scales globally Minimum qualifications: - BA/MS in Computer Science, Statistics, or related field - 4+ years in data engineering-focused roles - Demonstrated experience designing data models at scale - Proficiency building ETL pipelines for large data volumes - Experience with Spark-based data platforms - Strong command of data orchestration tools (Airflow, Dagster, Prefect) - Expertise in SQL, Python, and REST APIs - Familiarity with software engineering fundamentals and backend code - Version control experience (Git/GitHub) Ideal candidates also have: - Time series and late-arriving data experience - Knowledge of Databricks, Delta Lakes, Dagster - Public cloud experience (AWS, GCP, Azure) This remote position is open to Canada-based candidates; relocation assistance is not provided.
