Samsara (NYSE: IOT) is the pioneer of the Connected Operations Cloud, a platform enabling organizations in physical operations—agriculture, construction, field services, transportation, and manufacturing—to harness IoT data for actionable insights and operational improvement.
As a Senior Data Engineer, you will design and maintain critical data pipelines that ingest and transform IoT device and software product data into Samsara's core data model. Using SparkSQL and PySpark within a central data lake, you'll build highly reliable computed tables incorporating structured sensor data, unstructured video/audio, and customer metadata. Your work directly supports statistical analysis, machine learning model training, and customer-facing dashboards.
Key responsibilities include:
- Building and maintaining computed tables with strong uptime and reliability requirements
- Designing data models at scale and developing ETL pipelines for large data volumes
- Accessing, manipulating, and integrating external datasets with internal data sources
- Collaborating with Data Science, Analytics, AI/ML, and other Data Engineering teams to ensure data quality across diverse use cases
- Championing Samsara's cultural principles (customer focus, long-term thinking, growth mindset, inclusivity, teamwork) as the company scales
Minimum qualifications: BA/MS in Computer Science, Statistics, or related field; 4+ years in data engineering roles; demonstrated experience designing data models at scale; proficiency in ETL pipelines and Spark-based platforms; strong command of SQL, Python, and REST APIs; expertise with data orchestration tools (Airflow, Dagster, Prefect); familiarity with Git/GitHub and software engineering fundamentals.
Ideal candidates also have experience with time series data, Databricks, Delta Lakes, Dagster, and public cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure). This is a fully remote role for US-based candidates; relocation assistance is not provided.
