Rho is a modern banking platform for startups, offering account opening, card issuance, expense management, bill payment, and financial close capabilities in a single integrated platform.
The Senior Data Engineer will join the data products team to build and scale Rho's commercial banking technology. The data team treats data pipelines and ML systems as first-class products: owned, versioned, documented, and discoverable by other teams rather than hidden infrastructure.
Key responsibilities include designing and owning reliable, scalable, well-documented data products and pipelines that other teams can trust and build upon. The role emphasizes applying strong software engineering practices—clean code, testing, version control, CI/CD—to data work with the same rigor as production software. You'll build horizontal, ML-driven data products such as OCR pipelines for document processing, transaction coding suggestion engines, and RAG/agentic systems designed for reuse across multiple teams.
You'll define and maintain data product quality through quality checks, monitoring, alerts, and SLAs, ensuring consumers can rely on data products like well-run internal APIs. Direct partnership with stakeholders is essential: understanding their needs, gathering feedback, and iterating collaboratively. You'll also work with business intelligence and analytics teams to translate business requirements into discoverable, self-serve data products, and lead initiatives to expand Rho's data product catalog.
Required qualifications: 5+ years in data engineering, software engineering, or DevOps; proficiency with workflow orchestrators (Airflow, Dagster, Prefect); experience with major data platforms (Snowflake, Databricks, BigQuery); cloud infrastructure skills (GCP, AWS); Kubernetes deployment experience; Terraform or Pulumi expertise; advanced Python and Go programming with strong SQL; proven track record building and iterating data products based on consumer feedback; systems design for multi-team reuse; strong communication and collaboration skills.
Nice-to-haves include building data platforms from scratch, ML model deployment experience, RAG systems and vector databases, MLflow, agent development, data modeling approaches (Data Mesh, Kimball, Inmon, Data Vault), streaming data systems, Prometheus, and BI tools like Omni.
