Perry Weather is hiring its first Data Engineer to build the company's data platform from the ground up. You will own the complete data platform end-to-end: architecture, ingestion, modeling, orchestration, testing, cost optimization, and reliability. The role involves unifying operational data currently scattered across Azure SQL Server, TimescaleDB, HubSpot, Zendesk, and Acumatica into a single source of truth that serves executive decision-making, internal AI workflows, and customer-facing data products.
Core responsibilities include designing and operating a cloud-native data lakehouse or warehouse; establishing data reliability practices including contracts, SLAs, lineage, and observability; building infrastructure for customer-facing analytics and APIs; leading the AI data strategy by creating pipelines for LLM workflows and internal agents; setting modeling standards and documentation practices for future hires; and partnering directly with Finance, Revenue, CX, Product, and executive teams to understand their analytical needs.
You will bring 7+ years of data engineering or backend engineering with deep data ownership. You must have designed, built, and operated a cloud-native data platform in production, with enterprise-scale experience owning schema, storage, and partitioning decisions. Expert SQL and dimensional modeling skills are essential, along with strong software engineering fundamentals (version control, testing, CI/CD, code review, infrastructure as code). You need hands-on experience with modern cloud data stacks (Synapse, Databricks, or Snowflake), reliable ETL/ELT across operational databases and telemetry streams, and a track record supporting executive reporting with real business consequences.
Bonus qualifications include time-series or geospatial data at scale, IoT or sensor telemetry pipelines, streaming architectures (Kafka, Event Hubs, Flink), customer-facing or monetized data products, dbt and modern orchestration tools, and experience in vertical software for physical, traditional, or safety-critical industries.
Perry Weather combines cloud software, 6,000+ connected devices, weather stations, outdoor warning systems, and real-time data into one cohesive system used by the MLB, construction companies, schools, cities, golf courses, and manufacturing sites. The company has grown 80%+ annually for five years and is rapidly expanding its engineering team beyond 100 employees.
