Ambience Healthcare is an AI-powered clinical documentation platform that helps healthcare providers focus on patient care by automating administrative workflows. As Senior Data Engineer, you will own the data infrastructure that powers the company's core metrics and analytics—the foundation of trust for both internal decision-making and customer verification.
You'll build and maintain production data pipelines that ingest clinical and operational data from health systems, validate it at scale, and transform it into governed metrics accessible across the organization. Your work directly impacts how Ambience measures product adoption, clinical outcomes, time savings, and documentation quality across ambulatory, emergency, and inpatient settings.
Key responsibilities include: designing and operating ETL/ELT pipelines using Snowflake, dbt, and orchestration tools (Dagster); implementing data validation frameworks to ensure accuracy and reproducibility; building self-service analytics and dashboards for product, clinical, and GTM teams; establishing data governance and RBAC controls; and automating file-based ingestion workflows for seamless onboarding of external data sources. You'll work cross-functionally with engineers, product managers, clinicians, and go-to-market teams to translate raw data into actionable insights.
The role requires 5+ years of production data engineering experience with hands-on Snowflake expertise (data modeling, performance tuning, warehouse administration). You need strong SQL and Python skills, solid understanding of schema design and scalable architecture, and the ability to communicate clearly across technical and non-technical stakeholders. You thrive in fast-paced startup environments, take ownership of deliverables, and are comfortable making decisions with incomplete specifications. Experience with dbt, Airflow, Looker/Tableau, regulated industries (healthcare/finance), or early-stage startups is a plus.
Ambience is backed by top-tier VCs including Andreessen Horowitz, OpenAI Startup Fund, and Kleiner Perkins. The company was ranked #1 for Improving Clinician Experience by KLAS Research and recognized by Fast Company as a Next Big Thing in Tech. Engineering roles are hybrid, requiring 3 days/week in the SF office.
