Adyen is a global financial technology platform providing payments, data, and financial products to enterprise customers including Meta, Uber, H&M, and Microsoft. The company is seeking a Senior Data Engineer to join their Amsterdam office and play a crucial role in shaping data infrastructure and ensuring seamless data flow across systems.
In this role, you will collaborate with diverse stakeholders—data scientists, analysts, software engineers, product managers, and customers—to understand requirements and craft effective data solutions. You'll design, develop, deploy, and operate high-quality production ELT pipelines and data architectures, integrating data from various sources and formats while ensuring compatibility, consistency, and reliability. A key responsibility is championing data best practices across Adyen through mentoring, training, and knowledge sharing, establishing standards for performance, code quality, data validation, data governance, and discoverability.
You will ensure data accuracy, completeness, reliability, relevance, and timeliness by implementing rigorous testing, monitoring, and validation protocols. Performance optimization is critical—you'll identify and resolve bottlenecks in data pipelines and systems, optimizing query performance and resource utilization using technologies such as caching, indexing, partitioning, and Spark optimizations to meet SLAs.
The ideal candidate brings 7+ years of experience as a Data Engineer or in a similar role, with expert-level understanding of both software and data engineering practices. You should be highly proficient in Python, PySpark, Airflow, Hadoop, Spark, Kafka, SQL, and Git. You're a clear communicator who can articulate complex data concepts to diverse stakeholders, a self-starter capable of independently recognizing opportunities and owning projects, and an innovator with a 'launch fast and iterate' mentality. Experience fostering a data-centric culture within large technical organizations is valued. Current hiring is for teams including Protect ML, Finance Analytics, Payment Lifecycle Data, and Optimise Interfaces.
