Proton is building an AI operating system for wholesale distribution, unifying CRM, PIM, eCommerce AI, and Order & Quote Entry into a single platform. The company serves hundreds of leading distributors across industrial, HVAC, and electrical sectors, with customers reporting 3x profit return per dollar spent.
You will own and grow Proton's Data Layer — the unified foundation that every product and the AI brain are built on. This is a hands-on role where you design and operate end-to-end data pipelines and architecture: ingestion from files, events, and APIs; medallion-style transformation (raw → refined → curated); and the serving layer that powers both the product and AI systems.
Key responsibilities include building reliable ingestion and transformation pipelines using modern orchestration and cloud data warehouses; ingesting and reconciling large, messy real-world data across multiple source types; modeling data across medallion layers for trustworthiness and stability; and operating AI coding agents (Claude Code, etc.) at a high level to ship production-quality work. You'll also build validation, reconciliation, and lineage systems to ensure data correctness, and partner with backend, AI, and product teams to define data contracts.
What makes this role distinct: you're an AI-native operator, not just a pipeline author. Every engineer at Proton uses agentic tools as first-class collaborators—you guide agents, validate output, and make judgment calls they cannot. You own correctness end to end; when numbers don't match or the AI gives a wrong answer, the trail leads back to your data layer.
