Rocket Lab is an end-to-end space company building rockets, spacecraft, and critical subsystems for national security, exploration, and commercial missions. The Space Systems team has enabled over 1,700 missions including interplanetary exploration and defense initiatives, partnering with NASA, the Space Development Agency, and the U.S. Space Force. As a Senior Cybersecurity Engineer I based in Long Beach, you will design, implement, and maintain security infrastructure for Space Development Agency (SDA) programs. This role requires deep expertise in security principles, advanced technical skills, and the ability to anticipate emerging threats in a defense-critical environment. Key responsibilities include: - Design and manage security solutions protecting IT infrastructure (networks, servers, applications) - Conduct security assessments, vulnerability scans, and penetration testing - Develop and enforce security policies aligned with industry regulations and best practices - Monitor security systems and respond to incidents with detailed analysis and remediation - Integrate security best practices into the software development lifecycle - Stay current with security trends and recommend infrastructure enhancements - Mentor junior security engineers and IT staff Required qualifications: - Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Security, or related field - Active Secret security clearance required at hire - 5+ years in system security engineering or related role - 8140 Intermediate or Advanced certification (Security+, Cloud+, CISSP, CISM, CEH, or equivalent) - Strong knowledge of security frameworks (NIST 800, ISO 27001, CIS Controls) - Proficiency with security tools (firewalls, IDS/IPS, SIEM, endpoint protection) - Cloud security experience (AWS, Azure, GCP) and hybrid environment security - U.S. citizenship required Desirable qualifications include Master's degree, network/OS/application security expertise, DevSecOps experience, incident response and digital forensics background, scripting proficiency (Python, PowerShell), and strong analytical and communication skills.
