Cloudflare is seeking a Senior Customer Engineer to serve as a trusted technical advisor and primary architect of the customer journey for enterprise clients. This is a quota-carrying technical role that bridges pre-sales validation through post-sale adoption, expansion, and renewal.
You will partner closely with Account Executives to lead technical discovery, design proof-of-concept strategies, and deliver tailored architectural solutions across Cloudflare's product suite (DNS, CDN, Zero Trust, Network Security, Workers). You will own the full customer lifecycle: conducting technical deep-dives, addressing complex objections and compliance questions, designing migration and onboarding blueprints, monitoring customer health and adoption metrics, and identifying expansion opportunities based on platform usage.
Key responsibilities include:
- Technical Validation: Lead discovery, define PoC success criteria, deliver architectural presentations, and address edge-case requirements during sales cycles.
- Customer Adoption & Value Realization: Oversee technical onboarding (not execution), design structured migration blueprints, serve as primary engineering contact, and proactively monitor health scores to ensure rapid time-to-value.
- Commercial Accountability: Carry variable quota tied to new business acquisition and account growth; lead technical QBRs to translate platform capabilities into ROI for C-level stakeholders.
- Trusted Advisory: Maintain continuous deep relationships with key stakeholders throughout the entire lifecycle; identify deployment risks early and provide remediation strategies.
- AI Orchestration: Leverage AI agents, LLMs, and internal platforms to automate routine tasks (RFP responses, sandbox provisioning, telemetry monitoring) and reclaim time for strategic advisory.
- Education & Enablement: Partner with enablement teams to design technical resources, SOPs, architectural best practices, and guides.
Travel up to 20–50% is required for customer meetings, conferences, and team collaboration.
Qualifications:
Minimum: Experience in a customer-facing technical role (Solutions Engineering, Customer Engineering, Professional Services, Sales Engineering, Technical Account Management, or Forward Deployed Engineer). Ability to design and articulate complex enterprise network and security architectures. Excellent communication skills translating technical concepts to business outcomes for both engineers and executives. Proven track record in quota-carrying or revenue-aligned environments with understanding of SaaS metrics and enterprise sales cycles. Exceptional presentation and stakeholder management skills. Technical depth in at least four of the following: Internet fundamentals (OSI Model, BGP, GRE, TCP/UDP, DNS, HTTP(S), SSL/TLS); Security (WAF, Bot Management, Firewalls, Rate Limiting, mTLS, Zero Trust, SASE); Performance (speed, latency, caching, video streaming, HTTP/2, TLS 1.3); AI Proficiency (prompt engineering, AI-assisted scripting, LLM utilization, workflow automation); Coding/Scripting (Python, JavaScript, Bash, Lua, Go); Developer Platform Fluency (RESTful/GraphQL APIs, SDKs, webhooks, infrastructure-as-code, CI/CD, observability). Undergraduate or graduate degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
Strongly Preferred: Track record of creating technical enablement (workshops, code samples, documentation); experience with LLM orchestration and RAG architectures; understanding of regulatory requirements (PCI DSS, HIPAA, SOC 2); background from hyperscalers, digital natives, or distributed systems environments.
