Cloudflare is seeking a Senior Customer Engineer focused on AI and startup customers. This is a pre-sales technical role embedded within the Solutions Engineering organization, targeting the developer-first, digital-native segment. You will be a customer-facing technologist who partners closely with sales from deal inception through close. Your primary responsibilities include leading technical discovery within the cloud-developer vertical, engaging early in sales cycles, qualifying opportunities, and embedding yourself in customer technical teams (including Slack channels and working sessions). You will identify how customers build and ship products, map their initiatives—especially around new product development and AI—to the Cloudflare platform, and build deep technical relationships from founding engineers to CTOs. Key responsibilities: - Lead technical discovery: ask the right questions to understand customer architecture, product roadmaps, and AI initiatives - Engage early and often in sales-led discovery calls; help qualify deals from the outset - Identify and map customer business problems to Cloudflare's platform solutions - Build champion relationships within customer accounts across technical and leadership levels - Develop and present tailored technical content and demos for developers and senior technical leadership - Lead proof-of-concept and build activities - Evangelize the Cloudflare Developer Platform (Workers, Workers AI, Durable Objects, R2, D1, KV, Vectorize, Queues, Pages) as a foundation for building, not just consuming services - Create professional content including reference architectures, demos, and blog posts - Represent Cloudflare at developer, community, and industry events - Apply vertical expertise and advise on best practices The role requires up to 50% travel for customer meetings, conferences, and team collaboration. REQUIREMENTS: - Previous experience as a Solutions Engineer or other customer-facing technical role, ideally with developer-led, cloud-native, or startup organizations - Genuine "builder" mindset and personality; comfort engaging with developers and technical problem-solving - Ability to speak engineers' language credibly on architecture, APIs, and platform design—without being a hands-on, code-every-day developer - Strong technical discovery instincts; ability to draw out requirements and qualify fit early - Mix of pre-sales/technical sales experience and comfort in agile, fast-moving environments - Strong written and verbal communication; ability to present to both hands-on developers and CTOs - Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects - Highly driven, curious, team-oriented, and able to work with urgency - Experience building or contributing meaningfully to web applications - Proven track record building deep technical relationships with engineers and technical founders - Experience managing technical sales within accounts, developing champion relationships, and driving technical validation - Bachelor's degree or equivalent relevant work experience - Deep understanding of or desire to learn: Cloudflare Developer Platform, AI/GenAI application patterns (inference at edge, RAG, vector databases), HTTP technologies (reverse proxy, WAF, CDN, serverless), Internet security (DDoS, firewalls, TLS, VPN, DLP), networking (TCP, UDP, DNS, BGP, SD-WAN, MPLS), zero-trust network access (ZTNA, SASE), cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure) - Scripting/programming familiarity with JavaScript/TypeScript, Python, Golang, or BASH—enough to read code, build demos, and converse with engineers - Understanding of regulatory requirements (FedRAMP, GDPR, PCI DSS, HIPAA, SOC-2, ISO/IEC) is a plus - Undergraduate degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field preferred but not required
