Join Elliptic's Intelligence team as a Senior Cryptocurrency Intelligence Scientist (IC4 level), working at the intersection of data science and blockchain analytics. You will become a go-to authority on on-chain attribution and threat characterization, developing deep expertise in identifying patterns associated with specific entities, complex laundering techniques, and emerging criminal typologies.
Your work will directly strengthen the intelligence dataset underpinning Elliptic's products, guiding intelligence collection strategy and helping hundreds of financial institutions, exchanges, and government agencies understand and manage crypto-related financial crime risk.
Key responsibilities include:
- Develop expert understanding of identity and non-identity signals necessary to characterize complex on-chain threats, analyzing behavioral patterns, transactional rhythms, routing choices, bridge usage, and smart contract interactions
- Lead end-to-end complex research and investigation efforts from scoping through written output, presenting findings rigorously to clients, partners, and stakeholders
- Evaluate attribution coverage across threat areas and lead projects defining intelligence collection priorities, identifying material gaps and driving remediation
- Develop processes and tooling empowering analysts and data scientists to contribute to heuristic development, including documentation standards and peer review processes
- Maintain an opinionated, evidence-based view of cryptocurrency evolution, criminal typologies, and obfuscation techniques, translating insights into actionable intelligence priorities
- Summarize conclusions into reports, briefings, and marketing content calibrated to target audiences
- Work closely with the Principal Cryptocurrency Intelligence Scientist and Professional Services team to deliver intelligence to government partners and the broader crypto industry
- Coach and mentor junior colleagues, sharing technical and analytical expertise
Ideal candidates demonstrate deep, active personal interest in cryptocurrency, proficiency with data science fundamentals (SQL, Python), expert knowledge across multiple blockchains (L1/L2), competency in intelligence analysis with understanding of cognitive bias and structured analytic techniques, excellent communication skills, and AI fluency. Previous experience obtaining security clearance in UK or US is preferred.
