Strava is seeking a Senior Counsel to lead IP, risk, and litigation matters across the company's global platform. With over 200 million athletes in 185+ countries, Strava is the community for active people to track workouts, connect, and achieve goals.
In this role, you'll be the primary legal point of contact for patent portfolio management, trademark strategy and enforcement, cybersecurity incidents, law enforcement requests, and IP litigation. You'll operate independently across a broad practice area, escalating only the most complex or business-critical matters. You'll partner regularly with Marketing, Engineering, Customer Experience, and Security teams to develop creative, scalable solutions that manage risk while enabling business growth.
Key responsibilities include: leading trademark portfolio strategy and enforcement across Strava and Runna; building and protecting Strava's patent portfolio in partnership with the business; driving IP litigation matters from strategy through resolution; owning cybersecurity legal matters end-to-end; managing law enforcement data requests with scalable processes; advising Brand and Growth Marketing teams on campaign legal risk; supporting the CX team on user interaction legal questions; and building frameworks and playbooks to scale the practice area.
You'll embrace AI as a core tool, bringing curiosity and an experimental mindset to using AI for efficiency, problem-solving, and speed. This is ideal for a self-motivated, commercially-minded attorney who thrives at the intersection of brand protection, IP, and risk management.
Requirements: 8+ years of experience across multiple legal practice areas (IP, litigation, brand protection), ideally with law firm and in-house experience; sound independent judgment in ambiguous situations; comfort using AI tools and advising others on AI-related legal questions; clear judgment about when to resolve issues independently versus escalate; active bar membership in good standing.
Preferred: in-house legal experience at consumer tech or social platforms; experience managing outside counsel across multiple practice areas; global legal frameworks experience.
The role reports to the Deputy General Counsel and follows a flexible hybrid model requiring more than half your time on-site in the San Francisco office, approximately three days per week. Strava is backed by Sequoia Capital, TCV, Madrone Partners, and Jackson Square Ventures.
