General Legal is an AI-native law firm combining experienced U.S.-barred attorneys with AI-native workflows to deliver high-quality legal work faster and more predictably than traditional firms. They operate with modern tooling, outcome-based pricing, and meaningful ownership for team members.
This role builds out a dedicated health tech practice, seeking an attorney with deep, focused expertise in healthcare law—not broad generalist experience. You'll serve as the primary point of contact for health tech clients across the full range of healthcare-related legal needs: HIPAA and health data privacy guidance, FDA and digital health regulatory questions, and review/negotiation of BAAs and healthcare-specific contracts.
Key responsibilities include:
Client Work: Sit directly with health tech clients as a trusted advisor on HIPAA, compliance, and healthcare regulatory questions. Review and negotiate BAAs, vendor agreements, data-sharing agreements, and health data contracts. Serve as a subject matter resource for both clients and internal attorneys.
Knowledge Development: Review and improve BAA and healthcare contract templates. Build a healthcare precedent library reflecting current best practices and integrate into the product. Develop training materials and lead sessions for other attorneys encountering healthcare questions. Contribute to internal knowledge databases with practical, usable guidance.
Required: J.D. from accredited law school with active bar membership. 8+ years of deep, focused experience in healthcare regulatory and health tech transactional work (top-tier firm, in-house health tech, or regulatory agency background). Hands-on BAA drafting and negotiation experience. Encyclopedic knowledge of HIPAA, FDA, and digital health regulatory frameworks with current awareness. Enthusiasm for teaching and knowledge-sharing. Comfortable working across experience levels. Clear communicator who translates regulatory complexity into practical guidance.
You work fast and produce clean, sophisticated work product. You know BAA drafting deeply, live healthcare regulatory frameworks, use AI tools in practice today, and communicate directly with clear recommendations and appropriate caveats.
