Salary: USD 153,000 - 241,000 / annual
Motive is seeking a Senior Counsel to join its legal team and advise on the intersection of technology, law, and financial services for the Motive Card product. The role reports to the AGC, Head of Product, and will be responsible for counseling the product team on launching new card features, negotiating contracts (customer NDAs, issuer processor agreements, receivables financing), and supporting sales acceleration. You'll review and develop compliant marketing content, collaborate with finance and risk teams on fraud prevention and loss mitigation, and work cross-functionally with peers in privacy, regulatory affairs, IP, and general product counsel on novel issues.
The ideal candidate is a US-licensed attorney with 6+ years of experience, including significant in-house counsel experience with law firm training. You should have deep expertise in emerging fintech products, particularly commercial payments (non-crypto), and the ability to translate US financial regulations into practical product guidance for engineers and product managers. You're comfortable making independent decisions in areas of regulatory or contractual ambiguity, have a revenue-enabling mindset balanced with appropriate risk pushback, and bring an AI-first perspective with interest in building AI-driven legal tools. The role requires someone humble, low-ego, and deeply committed to empowering colleagues across the organization.
