OpenAI's Legal team is seeking a Senior Counsel to lead AI and product compliance initiatives across global regulatory frameworks. This role focuses on translating complex regulatory requirements—including the UK Online Safety Act, EU Digital Services Act, EU AI Act, and emerging global AI regulations—into scalable, practical compliance solutions.
You will serve as the primary legal expert on online safety, platform, and AI regulations, partnering closely with Product, Engineering, Safety, Policy, Operations, and Security teams. Key responsibilities include designing and implementing scalable compliance programs, governance frameworks, and operating processes; monitoring emerging regulations and enforcement trends; developing repeatable playbooks and decision frameworks; and supporting engagement with regulators and external stakeholders.
The ideal candidate brings 10+ years of in-house or technology-focused law firm experience, with deep expertise in UK Online Safety Act, EU Digital Services Act, EU AI Act, and similar global regulatory frameworks. You should have a proven track record building or leading scalable legal compliance programs in fast-moving technology environments, with the ability to translate complex legal requirements into practical product and technical guidance. Strong cross-functional relationship-building, sound judgment, and comfort operating in ambiguous, rapidly evolving regulatory environments are essential. A JD and license or qualification to practice in California are required.
