Baba is a Series A applied AI lab modernizing risk and care delivery for Medicare beneficiaries. The company has grown rapidly, completing tens of thousands of appointments and partnering with health plans covering 4+ million Medicare beneficiaries across all 50 states. The team combines engineers, former founders, and talent from companies like Ramp, Stripe, Palantir, and research institutions like MIT and CMU.
As Head of Compliance, you'll be the first dedicated compliance leader, reporting directly to the CEO. You'll build the compliance program from the ground up, working cross-functionally with RCM, Payer Strategy, Credentialing and Licensing, Clinical Operations, Engineering, Marketing, and Legal.
Key responsibilities include: establishing compliance policies, procedures, and code of conduct; conducting risk assessments across processes and systems; providing day-to-day regulatory advice to business teams on real-time decisions; managing audit readiness for payer audits and regulatory inquiries; investigating and remediating compliance issues; and building reporting and training programs.
The regulatory landscape is complex: fraud/waste/abuse (Anti-Kickback Statute, False Claims Act, Stark, beneficiary inducement), HIPAA privacy and security, state privacy laws (CCPA, My Health My Data Act), Medicare/Medicaid enrollment and program integrity, delegated credentialing and NCQA standards, state licensure and telehealth requirements across 50 states, corporate practice of medicine, FTC/state consumer protection standards for health claims, documentation and coding integrity, and AI governance for clinical and patient-facing applications.
You'll need 5–7 years in compliance, legal, strategy, or operations, ideally from healthcare startups, health tech, or consulting. Strong cross-functional project management, clear writing, comfort with incomplete information, and hands-on execution are essential. Healthcare compliance experience (payers, provider networks, telehealth), relevant certifications (CHC, CHPC, CHPS, CIPP/US), and advanced degrees (JD, MPH, MBA) are nice-to-have.
The role is based in NYC with preference for 2–3 days per week in the Soho office; remote considered for exceptional candidates with regular onsite time.
