Salary: USD 160,000 - 180,000 / annual
Slang AI is building conversational AI solutions for the restaurant industry, transforming voice interactions into seamless, human-like experiences. We're seeking an experienced Senior Conversation Designer to join our product team and advance our generative AI voice system.
In this role, you'll design end-to-end conversational flows for both voice and chat interfaces, incorporating conditional logic, parameter handling, and tool calls. You'll analyze conversation transcripts, audio, and metrics to identify friction points and translate them into concrete design improvements. Day-to-day work includes evaluating how LLM models perform in production, partnering closely with engineers to define prompts and guardrails, and debugging fallback paths. You're equally comfortable crafting consistent voice and tone as you are pushing prompt changes into GitHub.
You'll report to the Head of Product and partner with the Lead Conversation Designer to establish and evolve design standards and processes. Beyond individual design work, you'll drive research and testing across multiple methodologies—user research, usability testing, A/B testing, QA, and regression testing. You'll collaborate with product, engineering, and operations to align conversation design with broader product strategy and define reusable patterns that scale across experiences.
The role is based in our NYC headquarters with a hybrid schedule (3 days in office). Occasional travel for company offsites is expected.
Requirements:
- 7+ years of experience designing conversational interfaces (voice assistants, IVR systems, voice AI)
- Demonstrated expertise with both traditional NLU frameworks and generative AI/LLM technologies
- Experience contributing to design standards and following established processes
- Experience evaluating generative AI agents and metrics-driven design
- Proven ability to design and build technically complex flows with multiple logical branches
- Strong understanding of conversation design principles, error handling, and fallback mechanisms
- Ability to work embedded in engineering teams and advise on technical implementation
