VAST Data, a rapidly growing AI infrastructure company, is seeking a Senior Commodity & Materials Manager to join its supply chain organization. The company has built a revolutionary Universal Storage platform that powers AI and deep learning in modern data centers and clouds, and is experiencing significant growth in the AI infrastructure market.
In this critical supply chain role, you will drive material readiness and supply continuity for sustaining production and product transitions. You will leverage data, analytics, and supplier collaboration to proactively manage material risk, inventory health, and supply planning across the organization.
Key responsibilities include:
- Manage materials readiness for sustaining production and product transitions, with involvement in new product introduction (NPI) clear-to-build (CTB) processes
- Maintain and validate key supply, demand, and inventory data feeds to ensure accuracy for weekly operational reviews
- Monitor global inventory positions and identify actions related to aging inventory, slow-moving parts, shortages, and demand shaping opportunities
- Analyze multi-level bill of materials (BOM) structures and material usage to validate planning assumptions and supply alignment
- Collaborate with contract manufacturers and suppliers to track supply status, resolve shortages, and manage expedites
- Provide regular supply outlooks against demand forecasts, identifying risks and mitigation strategies
- Drive excess and obsolete (E&O) inventory reviews and disposition strategies with internal and external stakeholders
- Implement and maintain inventory audit and validation processes across supply, purchase orders, and system data
- Support product lifecycle transitions, including supplier end-of-life events and material rebalancing
- Serve as operations subject matter expert on inventory cost methodology and purchase price variance (PPV) drivers
- Generate materials planning dashboards, reporting, and analytics to improve cross-functional visibility
- Influence commodity and planning teams on allocation decisions, supplier forecasts, and long-term supply strategies
You will partner closely with Commodity Management, Procurement, Operations, Finance, Engineering, and Contract Manufacturing partners to ensure materials availability while maintaining healthy inventory levels and accurate planning signals.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree
- Minimum 5 years managing materials in a fast-paced work environment
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Visio
- Strong written and presentation skills
- Experience creating and implementing cross-functional workflow processes
- Experience devising and recommending strategies to drive materials and manage inventory
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's degree
- 10 or more years managing materials in a fast-paced work environment
- Program Management experience
