Mistral is seeking a Senior Commercial Legal Counsel to join its Legal team in Paris (or London), focusing on contracts and commercial matters. You will report to the Director of Commercial Legal Affairs and supervise the EMEA commercial legal team, providing case monitoring, escalation support, and team coordination.
Key responsibilities include drafting, updating, and providing strategic advice on a wide range of contracts—particularly AI-related service agreements—and negotiating these contracts with suppliers, partners, customers, and other stakeholders. You will develop structural resources and templates for the commercial legal team and other business stakeholders (GTM teams, procurement). Working closely with product and compliance teams, you will stay current on AI-related legal and regulatory developments and translate these into contract adaptations and negotiation strategies. You will also provide training and support to the business on legal and compliance matters related to AI.
You bring 8–10 years of relevant legal experience, ideally in technology or AI-focused environments involving contract negotiation. A Master's degree in law is required; bar admission is a plus. Essential qualifications include a solid understanding of AI technologies and applications, strong knowledge of data privacy, intellectual property, contract law, liability, and regulatory/compliance matters. You are detail-oriented with excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, capable of identifying legal risks in complex technical issues. Your communication skills are exceptional—you can present intricate legal concepts clearly to business audiences. You have an international mindset, adaptability to rapidly evolving legal landscapes, and a proactive, collaborative approach to managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. Strong ethical awareness regarding AI fairness, transparency, accountability, and bias mitigation is important.
