Deepgram is the leading platform for Voice AI, providing real-time APIs for speech-to-text, text-to-speech, and voice agents at scale. The company has processed over 50,000 years of audio and serves 200,000+ developers and 1,300+ organizations including Twilio, Cloudflare, and Jack in the Box. Backed by a Series C from leading global investors, Deepgram is at the forefront of the trillion-dollar Voice AI economy. You'll join a lean, high-impact legal team as the second commercial lawyer, reporting to the Associate General Counsel (Commercial). This is a builder's role focused on scaling legal infrastructure for a fast-growing AI company. You'll structure, negotiate, and close enterprise sales and partnership agreements while supporting vendor, services, data licensing, and marketing deals. You'll serve as a trusted partner to sales and business development teams, helping them move faster by bringing customer empathy to negotiations and crafting agreements that close quickly and hold up long-term. Key responsibilities include designing and implementing scalable legal processes—standardizing deal terms, building templates, and streamlining the path to signature. You'll provide practical guidance on privacy, intellectual property, data security, and AI-specific legal issues. A significant focus will be navigating cross-border commercial and regulatory issues across UK/EU and APAC markets, structuring appropriate data transfer mechanisms (SCCs, adequacy decisions, BCRs) for voice data processing, and staying ahead of the evolving legal landscape for AI technologies. You'll need 5–12+ years of legal practice experience (in-house, at a firm, or both) with demonstrated strength in commercial transactions internationally, particularly across UK/EU and APAC markets. Deep fluency in IP, privacy, data security, and data licensing is essential, along with practical experience structuring cross-border data protection compliance. You should be comfortable living in legal grey areas while providing clear, actionable advice, with exceptional writing skills. Experience scaling sales motions at high-growth startups, hands-on AI legal issues, and supporting U.S.-headquartered companies' commercial expansion would be valuable.
