OpenAI's Legal team is seeking an experienced commercial attorney to join the commercial legal team and lead legal support for OpenAI's rapidly growing business across the APAC region. You will serve as the primary legal partner for business transactions, partnerships, and operations, working closely with GTM, Partnerships, Procurement, Finance, Product, Government Affairs, Infrastructure, Security, and Engineering teams. In this role, you will provide practical, business-oriented legal advice on complex commercial contracts, partnerships, and transactions. You'll identify and address commercial, product, regulatory, privacy, and other legal issues arising from business activities. A key responsibility is developing scalable frameworks and processes for handling legal issues in ways that support responsible growth while maintaining compliance with evolving AI and technology regulations. You will monitor regulatory and compliance matters affecting AI and technology, collaborate with OpenAI's global legal team to ensure cross-jurisdictional alignment, and serve as a trusted advisor to multiple business functions. The role requires strong judgment in ambiguous, fast-changing situations and the ability to communicate complex legal concepts with clarity to diverse audiences. Ideal candidates bring 10+ years of experience across in-house and technology-focused law firm roles, with a strong background in drafting and negotiating complex commercial contracts. You should be comfortable in an entrepreneurial environment, proactive and independent, with excellent cross-functional relationship-building skills. Experience as an Australian-qualified or Korean-qualified lawyer with enterprise sales and partnerships background is a plus. The role is based in Singapore with a hybrid work model of 3 days in the office per week.
