The Senior Backend Software Engineer will be a key technical contributor to the engineering team, driving the design, implementation, testing, and maintenance of critical backend features and integrations. Responsibilities include owning important aspects of engineering infrastructure—not necessarily individual services, but the systems that connect them and the processes by which services are designed, implemented, and maintained.
The role requires independently executing complex projects, proactively identifying and resolving blockers, and mentoring less experienced developers. The engineer will drive technical discussions, help the team arrive at optimal solutions given constraints, and work closely with engineering leads on large, complex projects. Direct contributions to feature development, maintenance, and quality are expected, along with raising code quality standards through code review, testing, technical presentations, and refactoring. The engineer will also participate in the interview process for engineering candidates.
Required qualifications include 5+ years of commercial software development experience, 3+ years with Python as the primary language, 3+ years designing and extending RESTful APIs, 3+ years with web frameworks (Django preferred), 2+ years with relational SQL, and 2+ years troubleshooting production issues. Nice-to-have skills include full-stack experience, proficiency with AI-powered developer tools, AWS expertise, Infrastructure as Code experience, Git proficiency, and a computer science degree.
