LangChain is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to rebuild and scale the enterprise billing and monetization infrastructure that powers usage-based pricing across their platform. This newly formed role sits within the Enterprise Readiness team's billing and monetization pod, reporting to the team lead. You will architect LangChain's billing pipeline into a self-serve platform, enabling any team at LangChain to launch new pricing models in days instead of weeks without requiring deep infrastructure knowledge. Key responsibilities include designing and implementing usage-based and token-based pricing infrastructure (Python/Go), building abstractions and shared components that reduce complexity for shipping new pricing SKUs, implementing audit logging and metering pipelines tied to billing accuracy, and integrating with billing platforms like Metronome, Orb, or Stripe. You'll own billing reconciliation, deduplication, and edge cases including proration, disputes, and credits to ensure invoicing accuracy at scale. You'll partner closely with the billing PM, enterprise engineering, and product teams to define and prioritize the pricing infrastructure roadmap. The role requires writing clean, maintainable, well-documented backend code and thriving in a fast-paced startup environment. Required qualifications include 5+ years of backend engineering experience with Python or Go (both preferred), hands-on experience building or scaling usage-based, subscription, or consumption billing infrastructure, and experience with metering, invoicing, or pricing-model logic. Familiarity with Postgres, Redis, APIs, and modern distributed backend infrastructure is essential. Nice-to-have experience includes token-based or usage-based cost tracking from LLM/API-first companies. LangChain has raised $125M at Series B from top-tier investors (IVP, Sequoia, Benchmark, CapitalG, Sapphire Ventures) and serves 6,000+ active LangSmith customers, including 5 of the Fortune 10 and 35% of the Fortune 500. The company offers competitive compensation, meaningful equity, comprehensive benefits, and flexible vacation. Location is in-person 5 days/week in San Francisco.
