Salary: USD 150,000 - 210,000 / annual
Manifest is a cybersecurity and AI supply chain risk platform founded by Department of Defense and CISA alumni. The company helps organizations discover and analyze risks across internally built and third-party software and AI systems, providing visibility into technology stack components and dependencies. You will join as a Senior Backend Engineer responsible for designing and scaling web services and ETL architecture to support hundreds of thousands of transactions per second. This is a high-impact role in a data-intensive, fast-paced environment.
Key responsibilities include:
- Architect and build robust, fault-tolerant web and ETL services that scale to high throughput (10K+ transactions/sec)
- Act as a key communicator bridging gaps between teams and ensuring alignment across projects
- Identify and implement improvements in system performance and processes
- Design and build new features for the Manifest platform used by critical organizations globally
- Collaborate with engineering teams to optimize existing systems and integrate new technologies
- Develop robust monitoring, testing, and deployment strategies for mission-critical services
- Help recruit, onboard, and mentor colleagues; define and maintain high engineering standards
- Work closely with product management, designers, and other engineers to resolve issues collaboratively
Required experience:
- 8+ years in software engineering, with focus on web services and ETL systems
- Proven track record scaling high-volume, data-intensive systems
- Expertise in distributed systems, microservices, and cloud architectures
- Familiarity with containerization, orchestration, and CI/CD pipelines
- Proficiency in TypeScript, Mongo, Go, or Python (or ability to quickly learn applicable languages)
- Previous experience with commercial SaaS and on-prem products supporting external customers
- Experience in early-stage B2B SaaS startups
- Strong communication and collaborative skills
Bonus qualifications: MongoDB expertise, AI/ML and LLM experience, infosec/cybersecurity background, familiarity with SDLC security and DevSecOps tooling (SCA, DAST, SAST).
