Moonfare is rewriting private markets by delivering institutional-quality portfolios of venture and growth investments to sophisticated investors. The company operates from eight offices across Europe, the US, and Asia, combining finance veterans with talent from tech, consulting, law, and other industries.
This Senior Associate role sits within the Investment team's Venture & Growth division, which manages both primary fund investments into leading VC and growth managers (Founders Fund, a16z, Accel, Lightspeed, Khosla, General Catalyst) and a direct co-investment and secondaries programme. The direct side is the fastest-growing part of the business, but dealflow currently arrives faster than the team can review it, creating both risk and a scaling constraint.
You will own the direct deal pipeline from opportunity intake through close. Your responsibilities include: screening inbound co-investments and secondaries to form a position for team discussion; running diligence on direct deals, focusing on business quality, founding team strength, market size and contestation, and technical analysis (cap tables, preference stacks, waterfalls, secondary pricing, NAV); authoring investment memos for the Investment Committee; building market view and relationships with intermediaries, GPs, and over time founders; refining diligence processes and contributing to sourcing and monitoring tooling (including AI-enabled approaches); and supporting the commercial team with qualified dealflow and investor-ready materials.
Your first year is weighted toward screening, pipeline management, and diligence, with sourcing and business development building as your market view and relationships deepen. You will work alongside senior team members rather than alone, with decisions made collaboratively. You report to the Head of VC & Direct Investing and work daily with the commercial team, Legal, and Operations.
Success metrics include: deals sourced, screened, and taken to IC; timely deployment of proprietary funds; allocation secured with GPs and intermediaries; quality of investment memos requiring minimal rework; and risks surfacing in diligence rather than post-close. By six months, the pipeline should run without constant oversight and opportunities should be screened as they arrive. By twelve months, deal review should be fully operationalized with a repeatable process, and more than ten direct deals should have gone through IC.
The role offers growth toward Associate Principal, where you would lead the majority of diligence processes independently and generate opportunities through your own network. You gain access to GP conversations early, see the commercial side of capital raising alongside investment work, and help build a wider business across discretionary funds, deal-specific capital raising, and secondary markets.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Four or more years centered on venture and growth investing, via one of two paths: (1) direct investment expertise sourcing and diligencing technology company investments at a VC, growth equity, or crossover fund; or (2) allocator seat focused on VC and growth with hands-on co-investment underwriting. Adjacent relevant backgrounds include TMT and technology investment banking, tech-focused private equity or software buyout, corporate development or corporate VC at a technology company, and consulting with tech or commercial diligence focus. Demonstrable track record of hands-on deal work (screening, diligence, decision-taking) is essential.
- A network in venture you can already use (non-negotiable): relationships with GPs, intermediaries (placement agents, bankers), and other LPs/co-investors sufficient to access constrained opportunities, support diligence, and track spin-out candidates. Network scope of someone at your experience level is expected; you will build a much larger one here.
- Investment judgment you can defend: ability to form and argue a view on a company (including the case against), read a business and founding team, size a market, test thesis against evidence. Genuine fluency in emerging technology with conviction on themes and business models (AI front of mind but not the only lens). Ability to assess attractiveness quickly on limited/imperfect information. Comfort with financial modeling, market analysis, cap tables, preference stacks, waterfalls, secondary pricing, VC term sheets, and SPV mechanics. Ability to manage multiple live opportunities and prioritize sharply.
- Entrepreneurial instinct (non-negotiable): this is a builder's seat as much as an investor's. You want a hand in structuring, go-to-market, process design, and operational scaffolding of a business line still being built. AI fluency extends to designing processes around tools, not just using them.
- Communication across three contexts: ability to pitch and tailor to investment committee, commercial team, and clients; prepare reports and presentations each needs. Ability to build relationships with GPs and intermediaries that outlast any single deal and create standing that makes them think of Moonfare when scarce opportunities arise. Excellent written and spoken English essential.
- Eligible to live and work in Berlin or London.
