Moonfare is rewriting private markets by delivering institutional-quality portfolios of venture and growth investments to sophisticated investors. The company operates from eight offices across Europe, the US, and Asia, combining finance veterans with talent from tech, consulting, and law.
This Senior Associate role sits within the Investment team's Venture & Growth division, which manages both primary fund investments into leading VC managers (Founders Fund, a16z, Accel, Lightspeed, Khosla, General Catalyst) and a direct co-investment and secondaries programme. The direct side is the fastest-growing segment, and dealflow currently arrives faster than the team can review it—creating both risk and opportunity.
You will own the direct deal pipeline from opportunity arrival through close. Your responsibilities include:
• Screening inbound co-investments and secondaries, forming a position on each opportunity and presenting your view to the team for collaborative decision-making
• Running diligence on direct deals, combining business judgment (founding team quality, market size, thesis validation) with technical analysis (cap table, preference stacks, pricing, NAV)
• Authoring investment memos for the Investment Committee with accuracy and completeness
• Building market relationships with intermediaries, GPs, and over time founders to access constrained opportunities and track secondary pricing
• Contributing to process design and tooling (including AI-enabled approaches) to scale screening and diligence capacity
• Supporting the commercial team with qualified dealflow and investor-ready materials
Your first year emphasizes screening, pipeline management, and diligence, with sourcing and business development growing as your market view and relationships deepen. You will work alongside senior team members; decisions on what progresses are made collaboratively.
Success metrics include: deals sourced and taken to IC, timely deployment of proprietary funds, allocation secured with GPs/intermediaries, quality of investment memos, and ultimate capital raised and performance on direct deals.
By six months, the pipeline should run smoothly with screened opportunities and formed views presented to the team. By twelve months, the review process should be fully operationalized with 10+ direct deals through IC.
The role is hybrid with 4 days/week office attendance required in London (or Berlin, as the company operates from both).
REQUIREMENTS:
• Four or more years centered on venture and growth investing, via one of two paths: (1) direct investment expertise at a VC, growth equity, or crossover fund, sourcing and diligencing technology company investments; or (2) allocator seat focused on VC/growth with hands-on co-investment underwriting. Adjacent relevant backgrounds include TMT/tech investment banking, tech-focused private equity, software buyout, corporate development, corporate VC, or tech/commercial diligence consulting. Core requirement: demonstrable track record of hands-on deal work—screening, diligence, decision-taking.
• Existing network in venture (non-negotiable): relationships with GPs, intermediaries (placement agents, bankers), and other LPs/co-investors sufficient to access constrained opportunities and support diligence. Network need not match someone twice your experience, but must be real and actionable.
• Investment judgment you can defend: ability to form and argue a view on companies, read founding teams and business models, size markets, test theses against evidence. Fluency in emerging technology and AI (front of mind but not sole lens). Comfort with financial modeling, market analysis, cap tables, preference stacks, waterfalls, secondary pricing, VC term sheets, and SPV mechanics. Ability to manage multiple live opportunities and prioritize sharply.
• Entrepreneurial instinct (non-negotiable): this is a builder's seat as much as an investor's. Desire to shape structuring, go-to-market, process design, and operational scaffolding of a business line still being built. AI fluency extends to designing processes around tools, not just using them.
• Communication across three audiences: investment committees, commercial teams, and clients. Ability to prepare tailored pitches, reports, and presentations. Relationship-building skills that create standing with GPs and intermediaries so they think of Moonfare for scarce opportunities. Excellent written and spoken English essential.
