SmartAsset is a consumer-focused fintech platform reaching 23 million people monthly through educational content, calculators, and tools. The company also operates an Advisor Marketing Platform connecting consumers with fiduciary financial advisors. SmartAsset was valued at over $1 billion in its 2021 Series D and ranked #2574 on the Inc. 5000 list in 2023.
This is a hands-on PR role focused on shaping SmartAsset's brand presence and online reputation among consumers and the RIA (Registered Investment Advisor) industry. The position is not traditional PR—it emphasizes data journalism and storytelling over conventional communications.
Key responsibilities include:
**Brand Journalism:** Write several original data studies monthly from hypothesis through final draft. Pitch data studies to trade, financial, and consumer press; track placements. Edit data studies from team members for accuracy and pitch-readiness. Interpret and represent data accurately in follow-up conversations with reporters.
**Digital Reputation:** Monitor SmartAsset brand comments and feedback across the web. Work with Compliance to draft replies to consumers and financial advisor customers. Facilitate online dialogue in high-visibility forums like Reddit regarding SmartAsset products.
**Social Media:** Own content creation, publishing, and performance tracking for SmartAsset's X and LinkedIn presence. Adapt data studies and company news into channel-native formats for a wealth management audience. Report on engagement and reach; identify what works and reallocate effort accordingly.
**Corporate Communications:** Monitor competitor announcements, trade press narratives, regulatory developments, and industry conversation. Surface findings to PR and marketing teams on a regular cadence.

**Requirements:**
- 2–4 years of experience in a public-facing writing role (PR, communications, journalism, content marketing, or wealth management marketing)
- Demonstrated ability to write publishable copy on deadline; portfolio of published or placed work required
- Comfort interpreting and relaying data accurately (percentage vs. point, median vs. mean) with discipline to verify numbers before sharing with reporters
- Working fluency with spreadsheets; ability to extract stories from raw datasets independently
- Familiarity with personal finance, fintech, wealth management, or financial advisory subject matter
- Ability to engage target demographics and maximize exposure on LinkedIn and X
- Familiarity with LLMs across multiple use cases (research, drafting, editing, workflow automation)
- Familiarity with SEO fundamentals, particularly earned backlinks and referring domain authority
- Basic video and graphic editing with tools like Canva
- Thorough, thoughtful, and curious researcher who works independently and ships on schedule
**Preferred Experience:**
- Cold pitching and building reporter relationships from scratch
- Producing original research or data-driven editorial at volume
- Operating in compliance-reviewed environments (financial services, healthcare, legal) and managing content through approval workflows
- Familiarity with media monitoring, outreach, or list-building software (Yesware, Cision, Muck Rack)
- Familiarity with AI answer-engine visibility and how brands are cited in LLM outputs
