Datadog is seeking a Senior AI Engineer to lead the development of AI-assisted workflows within Datadog Notebooks, a collaborative platform for ad-hoc data analysis, incident postmortems, and runbooks. In this role, you will design and deliver AI-powered product experiences that combine deterministic product capabilities with LLM-powered features to create trustworthy, explainable customer outcomes.
You will work closely with Product and Design teams to translate customer problems and roadmap goals into concrete technical decisions. Key responsibilities include building systems that enable Datadog capabilities to operate within third-party AI platforms and conversational environments, developing reliable backend services that run in the critical path of customer deployments, and providing technical leadership while establishing AI engineering best practices.
You will own production systems, be on-call for critical services, and mentor team members. The role emphasizes a strong product mindset, connecting technical decisions to customer outcomes and business impact.
Required qualifications: 6+ years of relevant engineering experience, hands-on experience delivering production AI-powered products using LLM technologies, proficiency in Go, Python, or similar systems programming languages, and experience building reliable systems that manage model non-determinism through evaluation frameworks and testing strategies. You should approach problems with a product-first mindset and demonstrate operational excellence in managing complex, AI-driven systems.
