Flare is a fast-growing cybersecurity SaaS company on a mission to help organizations take control of their data and protect their customers, employees, and brands by uncovering external threats. As Senior Accountant, you will be the operational backbone of Flare's finance function and a true partner to the controller. The company has established solid foundations and is expanding the team to support rapid growth and increasing complexity. You will own concrete responsibilities from day one and be fully involved in transactions, systems, and processes while helping shape the evolution of the finance function as the company scales.
This is not a role about maintaining the status quo. Flare is in a hypergrowth phase where systems and processes evolve in real time. You will need to find innovative ways to solve challenging problems and contribute to building world-class accounting operations within a high-growth startup.
Key Responsibilities:
- Own daily transactional accounting: invoicing, accounts receivable, and accounts payable
- Assume significant responsibility for monthly financial close: account reconciliations, revenue recognition entries, and transaction coding
- Ensure compliance with Canadian accounting standards (NCECF) and sales tax reporting
- Identify and leverage technology and automation opportunities, including AI-powered workflows, to simplify financial processes, reduce manual work, and scale the finance function
- Participate in external audit processes and contribute to cross-functional projects
You will work within Flare's AI-native ERP from day one and contribute to evolving accounting operations. While current reality includes manual tasks, the company seeks someone who can find better ways to accomplish them. You will learn by doing, document what you learn, report what doesn't work, and drive continuous improvement.
Requirements:
- 4–6 years of progressive accounting operations experience
- Solid practical knowledge of revenue recognition, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and monthly close
- Strong knowledge of Canadian accounting standards (NCECF) and sales tax compliance
- Experience with accounting software, Excel/Sheets, and modern SaaS tools
- Exceptional attention to detail and strong sense of accountability
- Good judgment about when to solve issues independently versus escalate to the team
- Ability to manage recurring deadlines and proactively report issues
- Curiosity about technology and enthusiasm for process improvement and automation in a dynamic, innovative environment
- Desire to thrive in a small team where each person's contribution is visible and valued
- Impeccable ethics, ability to maintain information confidentiality, and constant focus on accuracy and integrity
- Based in Montreal with ability to work in both French and English to collaborate with internal and external Canadian partners
Ideal to Have:
- Experience in a high-growth SaaS or technology company
- Exposure to AI tools, automation, or system integrations in an accounting context
- Experience documenting processes and supporting audits
- Experience supporting system or financial tool implementation
- Familiarity with multi-entity and multi-currency environments
- CPA designation
